Vancouver Group Launches “Plunge for the Cure” Benefitting Ovarian Cancer Research
Vancouver, BC – Today, a group of Vancouverites launched the Plunge for the Cure Foundation, a registered Canadian charity that was established to raise funds for drug and treatment development targeting ovarian cancer. Plunge for the Cure culminates in an annual event on the last Sunday in May. The first inaugural event will take place on Sunday, May 28th, 2023 at Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver, BC.
According to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, each year in Canada, over 3,100 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and over 1950 will die from their disease.
“Plunge for the Cure started with wanting to bring some fun to Vancouver while supporting an important cause” said Jim Shepard, of Plunge for the Cure. “We’ve seen the difference movements like these can make in addressing other similar causes, and want to do our part to make a difference for women. Take the Plunge to help us crush ovarian cancer!”
The event will raise funds for drug and treatment development for ovarian cancer through the world-renowned UBC/VGH research facilities in Vancouver.
“We are excited to be part of Plunge for the Cure and to see it make an impact in the lives of women and families around the world” said Shepard. “We look forward to seeing support for the important initiative grow and challenge other cities, organizations, and individuals to get involved. Lets make a big splash!”
